Chapter Ten

When we arrived at his house or lair or whatever he was calling it, my patience had all but worn thin. I wasn’t playing by Remington’s rules anymore. I was going to get my dad back using the gifts God and this nifty dress gave me.

Rem’s hand found its way on my lower back, his thumb rubbing the bare skin there as he led me into the large Victorian house. I hardly paid any mind to the house to be honest, my mind too focused on the little zings his touch caused in me. Sure, I still caught the four windows in the front, the half a dozen or more on the second floor with a few balconies thrown in for good measure, but looking for entrances and exits like that was a subconscious thing that had been ingrained in me since birth.

“What do you think?” Remington gestured around the living room as we stopped in the center of it.

I took that moment to move out of his arm reach and pretended to admire the room, my head nodding slightly. “It’s nice. Not exactly what I’d expect to find in L.A. but nice.” I turned back to him, our eyes meeting. “It suits you.”

“I’d rather like to think so,” Remington smiled and then took a seat on one of the many couches. “Come, talk with me.” A female vampire came into the room from behind him, a bottle of wine and two glasses in her hands. “Thirsty?”

Locking eyes with Rem, I prepared to execute my plan. “Absolutely parched.” My lashes lowered and my voice came out breathy as I stalked toward him. Instead of taking the seat next to him, I stopped before him and let his eyes trail up and down my body.

“I do have to say that dress does look quite lovely on you, pet.” His hands reached up and touched the flared ends of the skirt. “I’m so glad you wore it.”

“Are you?” I asked, lifting one knee and placing it on one side of him before doing the same with the other. Remington uncrossed his leg and allowed me to straddle him, but his hands never took advantage of the position as they stayed firmly on my hips.

“What’s this now?” Amusement filled his tone, and I didn’t like it. He was supposed to be falling all over himself to have me, to please me, and the damn vampire wasn’t playing his part.

Sinking onto his lap, my hands on his shoulders, I let out a soft sigh, one that wasn’t as hard to fake as I thought it would be, as our centers pressed together. “I thought this was what you wanted? Me, willing. Well, I am.”

Remington’s lips curled into a delighted grin, not that of a man starved to have me. Reaching up a hand, his thumb caressed my cheek. “You’re so beautiful, and I’d be a fool to refuse you.”

“Then don’t,” I murmured before pressing my mouth to his, not allowing him to talk himself out of it or doubt me.
